GET KIDS BACK TO SCHOOL PRAISES NEW EXECUTIVE ORDER

WILL END ILLEGAL PRACTICES IN MICHIGAN

PARENTS MUST PUSH FOR IMPLEMENTATION

Northville, MI  – President Trump issued an executive order last night entitled “Ending Racial Indoctrination in K-12 Schooling” that not only fulfills a campaign promise, but also discourages very troubling policies that have been adopted and implemented in some Michigan school districts. Many of these practices have been illegal in Michigan since the passage of Proposal 2 in 2006, yet misguided school districts have long ignored or avoided compliance with that citizens-approved amendment to the Michigan Constitution. Parents must remain vigilant to see that their districts remove these harmful practices and restore the rights of parents to guide their children’s education.

The executive order directs agencies to prepare a plan to eliminate funding for schools that retain divisive policies of indoctrination. No school in Michigan should have such policies, as they have been illegal for almost 20 years, yet many do. The Superintendent of the Detroit Public Schools Community District was quoted as saying that critical race theory was “deeply imbedded” in his curriculum. It is unclear how DPSCD, who relies heavily on federal funding, will comply with the law and remove that harmful ideology.

Even more importantly, the executive order directs a new focus on eliminating radical gender ideology and preserving parental rights. Under the order, schools will be forced to protect the rights of young girls to private spaces, including bathrooms and locker rooms. School sports are not particularly mentioned, but will likely be covered by enabling administrative rule-making. Additionally, the executive order makes crystal clear the administration’s position that to hide medical and gender information from parents, as undertaken openly by many districts across the state, violates federal law.

Matthew J. Wilk, President of Get Kids Back to School, Inc., noted “I thank President Trump for running on this issue, giving it the attention it deserves, and following through with the force of the Federal Government to end this insanity. Girls deserve private spaces, and parents deserve the right to be back in their rightful place when it comes to their children’s education: in the know and in charge.”

Parents will have to remain vigilant to insure that districts comply with the letter and the spirit of this executive order. Undoubtedly, many districts will either openly defy or conceal efforts to avoid compliance with these common-sense concepts. No child should be taught that they are “lesser.” Young girls, in particular, deserve private spaces. And parents have the right to direct their children’s education, whether school districts like it or not.

Get Kids Back to School Inc. is a 501(c)(4) dedicated to improving the education of all citizens, including our youngest. The organization provides guidance, information and support to decision-makers who will help push back the tide of erosion on the traditional curriculum, and improve and reinvigorate the education of Michigan’s students.
